OTHELLO - The Othello Huskies took advantage of four first-half touchdowns to hold off Columbia Basin rival Connell 29-14 in Friday night at Othello High School.

The Huskies jumped on the scoreboard first when senior quarterback Marc Garza connected with wide receiver Jakob Scott from 20 yards out to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead over the Eagles.

Garza kept the Eagles off balance all night as he connected on eight of his 14 attempts to gain 172 yards through the air with three touchdowns.

As the Huskies were driving deep into Eagle territory, Garza hit Lee Gomez from 12 yards out to give the Huskies a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Othello built a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, when Garza completed a 53-yard touchdown pass to Chris Brunetti.

After the Huskies forced Connell to punt deep in Eagles territory, punt returner Devon Lind took over.

Lind fielded the Connell punt at the 50-yard line and broke tackles as he streaked down the Othello sideline for the touchdown.

Following Lind's return, Jeremy Cerillo fielded an awkward snap on the extra point attempt and ran the football in from 2-yards out for a successful 2-point conversion. The successful attempt gave the Huskies a 29-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles responded in the second half scoring a touchdown in each of the game's final two quarters. The first score came in the third quarter when Carlos Bailon-Schubert caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Eagles quarterback Nate Martinez.

Connell ended the scoring when Ridge Taylor returned a fumble 32 yards to cut the Huskies lead to 29-14.

The Huskies travel to Ephrata Friday night to take on the Tigers.
