ACH dominant in season opener

COULEE CITY - Behind the strong rushing from running back Grayson Sizemore, the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warrior jumped out to a commanding 32-0 halftime lead to knock off visiting Inchelium 58-32.

The victory was the 11th consecutive for the Warriors who won the 1B Washington state football championship last season.

Sizemore rushed nine times for 106 yards and two touchdowns to lead the ACH ground attack. The Warriors rushed for 263 total yards in Friday night's win.

Quarterback Matt Gregson was 4 of 7 passing for 98 yards and a touchdown. Shawn Dahlenburg had 2 catches for 58 yards to lead ACH. Kody Dillon had two catches of his own for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Although ACH began the defense of its state championship with a victory, head coach Brandon Walsh said his team must improve.

"We need to get a but sharper in the little things," he said. "I let them know that despite winning we have hings to work on for next week."

West Valley 49

Ephrata 7

The Ephrata Tigers used a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Eric Tinnell to tie Friday night's contest with West Valley at 7-7. Tinnell's touchdown was the only Tigers score of the night as visiting Ephrata dropped the 2008 season opener to West Valley of Spokane 49-7.

Royal 47

Naches Valley 14

Royal took advantage of three scoring runs from Jorge Marmelejo to knock off Naches Valley 47-14 to start the season. Marmelejo scored on runs of 10-, 8- and 2-yards and finished the contest with 53 yards rushing on 12 carries. Royal quarterback Connor Paysse finished the night 14 of 24 for 214 yards and one touchdown.

Warden 21

Mabton 0

Following a scoreless first half, Warden took a 7-0 lead when Bacon Gonzales scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the Cougars.

As Mabton tried to go to the air, the Cougars intercepted two Mabton passes and returned them each for touchdowns to give Warden a 21-0 victory to open the 2008 season.

Robert Pruneda returned the first interception 35 yards for a score and Chris Kalous returned the second interception 6 yards for the game's final score.
