Warden Classic Car Show this Saturday
WARDEN - Classic cars and motorcycles will be on display Saturday in Volunteer Park in Warden.
Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. and trophies are awarded at 3 p.m., event volunteer Gordie Edwards said.
It costs $20 to register a vehicle in the event. The first 35 people to register get T-shirts and goodie bags, so he urges people to come early to get them. Volunteer Park is located on Alder Avenue between Third Street and Fourth Street.
"I'm hoping we have a whole bunch of cars," he laughed. "I wouldn't care if it overflowed the park."
In previous years there were between 25 and 30 cars at the park. The event is in its fourth year.
Edwards' involvement in the car show was instigated by Tom Gould. He said Gould wanted to have an annual car show and asked Edwards to help because he has a classic car. Gould died last year but Edwards and other event organizers continued hosting the show.
Edwards has a 1960 Studebaker Hawk.
"I've always loved Studebakers," he said. "Some people like money. Some people like other things. I like other things."
Each year one classic car is chosen to be the car featured on the event T-shirts for the next car show. Last year Dennis Ferguson of Moses Lake won the honor with his 1942 Studebaker sedan.
"It's a gorgeous little car," Edwards said.
There are several competitive categories, he said.
The categories include Best of Show, Best Pickup, Best Antique and categories are also divided by decades for best vehicle per time period.
Awards are trophies and gifts donated from local businesses including jumper cables, tool kits, floor jacks and car care kits.
