Margaret Lulu Craig
Margaret Lulu Craig passed away at the age of 94 on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, in Moses Lake after a long battle with diabetes.
Margaret was born to Randolph Tichenor and Rose Belle (Linton) Meservey on June 24, 1914, in Illahe, Ore. She was the fourth of seven children, including four sisters (Eleanor, Florence, Norma and Crystal) and two brothers (Kenneth and John Douglas). Margaret loved growing up in the Illahe area, on the Rogue River.
In 1930, she married Arthur Laverne Jess in Grants Pass, Ore. They were blessed with three children, Art, David and Joyce, and lived in various locations in Oregon while he worked for the Forest Service.
In 1951, she married Dale W. Sheets in Anchorage, Alaska. They were blessed with two children, Kathy and Coulee. In 1953, they came to the Columbia Basin. They lived on a small farm outside of Quincy for several years.
In 1962, Margaret married Brad Craig in Quincy. Their family included his four children, Robert, Marilynn, Gail, and Gene. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage and lived in Orondo and Steven's Pass for many years while Brad worked for the Department of Transportation.
In 1980, they returned to Quincy and remained there until a few years ago, when illness forced both of them to live in assisted living facilities in Wenatchee.
Margaret enjoyed growing beautiful roses. She also enjoyed painting watercolors of flowers and was a talented sketch and charcoal artist. Margaret created beautiful crewel embroidery pieces and was an excellent baker. In her retirement, she enjoyed playing cards, playing Scrabble and solving crossword puzzles. Margaret (Nana) especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She looked forward to their visits and was always interested in their school, friends and activities. She loved them all.
She is survived by her son Art (Leanne) Jess of Haines, Ark.; daughter Joyce Gardner of Quincy; daughter Kathy (Mike) Kniep of George; son Coulee (Barbie) Sheets of Peshastin; stepson Bob (Lora) Craig of Anchor Point, Ark; stepdaughter Gail Niderost of East Wenatchee; and stepdaughter Marilynn (Oscar) Pearson of Wenatchee. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, her sisters Norma Alberthal of Portland, Ore., and Crystal Lucas of Gold Beach, Ore., as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Brad in May 2008, her son David, her parents and four of her siblings.
Viewing will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel in Quincy. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Orondo Community Church, interment will follow at the Orondo Cemetery, with a luncheon to conclude services at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel, Quincy.
