Events offered

COLUMBIA BASIN - From haunted mazes to treat-filled places, Columbia Basin organizations are giving families a variety of options for how to spend Halloween.

Moses Lake

  • Moses Lake High School - The Moses Lake High School Key Club and Associated Student Body organized a trick-or-treating event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students are giving away candy in 21 rooms at the school.

Key Club is offering photographs for $2 and photograph buttons for $5. In addition, the high school band is offering a haunted house.

The event is open to children ages 12 and younger. A canned food drive to benefit UNICEF is offered at the same time. The high school is located at 803 E. Sharon Ave.

  • Grant County Fairgrounds - Nightscare Production is hosting a 15-room haunted house at the Grant County Fairgrounds. The event is at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for children's hour. The adult version opens at 8 p.m. The cost of admission is $4 for children and $5 for adults.

Grant County Fairgrounds is located at 3953 Airway Drive N.E., in Moses Lake.

  • Samaritan Healthcare - Samaritan Healthcare is offering free X-rays of Halloween candy, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the hospital lobby. A staff member from the radiology department is conducting the X-rays.

Community Relations Coordinator Connie Opheikens said 95 children had candy X-rayed last year.

The hospital is located at 801 E. Wheeler Road.

  • Downtown - The Moses Lake Business Association is hosting LakeTown Landing Trick-or-Treat. The event is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. along Third Avenue.

Thirty-three businesses, including several from outside LakeTown Landing, are participating this year, said Executive Director Marianne Bondi. Bondi said the event is bigger this year.

"There's usually somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 kids," Bondi said.

Moses Lake Business Association is playing "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," at around 6 p.m. or when it is dark, said Bondi. The movie is being played in Sinkiuse Square.

A bouncy house will be located on Ash Street and a racecar will be on display.

  • Moses Lake football - Moses Lake football team parents are hosting a tailgate party with a "trick-or-trunk" Halloween candy giveaway. The event is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Lions Field or next to McCosh Park, said Football Booster representative Javier Loera. "This is one of the few home playoff games we've had," noted Loera. For more information, call Javier Loera at 509-750-1624.

Othello

  • Adams County Fairgrounds - The Othello Rodeo Association is offering a straw maze through Nov. 1. The maze is haunted from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a non-haunted version from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost of admission is $3.

The maze is located on Reynolds Road in Othello behind the fairgrounds. Look for signs.

  • Eagles Lodge - The Eagles Lodge is holding a Halloween party tonight with live music and a costume contest. The lodge is at 127 E. Larch St. For more information, call 509-488-5868.
  • Harvest Festival - The Othello Foursquare Church is holding its sixth annual Harvest Festival tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. behind the old Potter's building. It is free to the public and offers food and games.

Quincy

  • Downtown - Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a downtown trick-or-treat, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event takes place with businesses on Main Street and other businesses participating, said Executive Director Aleeta Merred. The 24 participating businesses will be displaying an orange pumpkin in the window. The city is blocking off the downtown area for the event, Merred said.

"I think the (most fun) part that all the families and kids enjoy is they get to see everyone else's costume, and say 'hi' and visit," Merred said.

The only requirement is to wear a costume.
