ROYAL CITY - The Royal Lady Knights volleyball team overcame a slow start Tuesday night to defeat the visiting Kiona-Benton Lady Bears in four games on senior night.

Kiona-Benton got off to a hot start as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over the Lady Knights in the first game of the match.

Royal head coach Ashley Roberts said she was pleased with how her team finished its home schedule.

"It was a good finish to the season," she said. "A win is a win, you take it anyway they come."

Royal High School celebrated the careers of Lady Knights seniors Janae Anderson and Olivia Christensen prior to the match for senior night.

Anderson and Christensen are the only seniors on Royal's roster this season.

Roberts said she was happy her team could send its seniors off with a victory.

"Senior nights are always emotional," she said. "I'm glad we could finish the season off with a win."

With the victory, the Lady Knights sit in third place in the SCAC East Division and will play the second place team from the West Division next Tuesday.

Roberts does not know who her team's opponent will be, but she said she is proud of how her team's season has progressed.

"I think we did very well," she said. "I think we did a lot better than last year and that is all you can ask for."

Paysse led the Royal attack Tuesday night finishing with a team-leading 15 kills. Paysse also recorded four blocks and junior Page Woodward added 13 kills in the victory.
