Ephrata Lady Tigers hold off Lady Jacks
QUINCY - Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) volleyball rivals Quincy and Ephrata battled Tuesday night in Quincy with bragging rights on the line.
Quincy and Ephrata battled hard in a match that took five games to determine a winner.
The Quincy Lady Jacks won the first game 25-20 before Ephrata rallied to win game two 25-18.
The Lady Jacks took a 2-1 lead following a 25-19 win in game three and Ephrata again responded, taking game four 25-16.
With the match tied at 2-2, the Ephrata Lady Tigers won the fifth game 15-7 to win the match 3-2.
The first game of the match was a 35-minute marathon with both teams exchanging points on long volleys and playing to a 19-19 tie. With the game tied, the Lady Jacks went on a scoring run and distanced themselves from Ephrata with a 25-20 victory.
After the Lady Jacks took the first game of the match, Ephrata jumped out to an early lead, a lead they never would relinquish as the Lady Tigers evened the match at 1-1.
With the match tied, Quincy hopped out to an early 11-3 lead.
However, the Lady Tigers from Ephrata dug deep and clawed their way back into the game with solid serves from the line and tough battles at the net.
In the end Quincy held of the Lady Tigers for a 25-19 victory.
With the match on the line for Ephrata, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Jacks 9-3 before Quincy could get back in the game and close the Ephrata lead to 14-7.
Quincy would not challenge the Lady Tigers late in game four as Ephrata won 25-16 to tie the match at 2-2.
The Lady Tigers came out and dominated the game five tie-breaker by scoring 11 unanswered points in the game before ultimately winning 15-7.
Ephrata head coach Charlotte Throgmorton said the match was exciting and that it was anybody's to win.
"Both (teams) have talent that is equal," Throgmorton said "It was fun to play like that."
Ephrata's Allie Duff had six aces and 15 assists in the win and Kendra De Hoog had six kills, seven blocks and six digs.
Rachelle Couture had eight kills and Alex De Hoog had 10 blocks.
Quincy's Manda Brindle finished the night with three aces, 19 assists, five kills and 10 digs.
Rachel Tobin had nine kills, eight blocks and Becca Boen had two aces in the loss.
