Significant damage, no injuries

EPHRATA - A vacant home sustained heavy damage due to a fire early Sunday morning in Ephrata.

A citizen called 9-1-1 a few minutes before 4 a.m. to report the fire, Ephrata Battalion Chief Kyle Foreman stated. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames permeating from the front of the home located on Alder Street Northwest.

"Firefighters dealt cautiously with this fire since they were uncertain about the home's stability and overall maintenance," he noted. "The home, originally built in 1918, suffered significant fire and heat damage."

Foreman advised the fire was quickly extinguished inside the 800-square-foot home. They remained on the scene for about two hours clearing the scene and soaking hot spots.

The cause of the fire was not determined.

To extinguish the fire, 25 firefighters from the Ephrata Fire Department, Soap Lake Fire Department, Grant County Fire District No. 7 and Grant County Fire District No. 13 responded.

No injuries were reported and no one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
