WAPATO - The Othello Huskies football team moved into a tie for second place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) following their 42-7 victory over Wapato Friday night.

The Huskies capitalized on 179 passing yards from senior quarterback Marc Garza to distance themselves from the Wolves.

Othello got on the board first when Aaron Simmons took the hand off from Garza and ran three yards for the Huskies touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

Othello would build a 14-0 first quarter lead when Chris Brunetti caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Garza.

The touchdown pass was the first of Garza's four on the evening.

Garza and the Huskies took a commanding 21-0 lead into halftime following Garza's second touchdown pass of the night.

Garza connected with Brunetti again, this time on a 25-yard touchdown pass.

The Huskies opened the second half scoring when Garza connected with Miles Gardner for a 5-yard touchdown pass as Othello took a 28-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Huskies held a commanding 28-0 lead in the fourth quarter when Garza threw his fourth and final touchdown pass of the evening to Michael Garza for a 29-yard score.

Garza finished the night 11 of 18 passing for 179 yards.

The Wolves would avoid the shutout when Cody Nickoloff found the endzone after a 74-yard touchdown run.

Othello would respond and earn a 35-point victory when Lee Gomez scored from five yards out to give the Huskies a 42-7 win.

The Othello victory was their fifth consecutive win and sets up a Halloween showdown with the Selah Vikings Friday night for sole possession of second place in the CWAC.

Both Othello and Selah are 7-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. Their only losses of the season have come to defending state champion Prosser.

Othello lost 54-21 at home on Sept. 19 and Selah fell to the Mustangs 33-13 Friday night.

Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

ACH 42, Wilbur-Creston 20

WILBUR - The Almira/Coulee-Hartline (ACH) Warrior football team ran to victory Friday night on the legs of running back Mike Rehn as ACH topped the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats 42-20.

Rehn led the Warriors with 137 yards rushing on 18 carries as ACH piled up 314 rushing in the win. Rehn also had one touchdown for the Warriors.

After the win, ACH head coach Brandon Walsh said he was impressed with his team's rushing attack.

"We ran the ball very well," he said. "The offensive line was blowing people off the ball. Rehn had his best game of the season. He ran hard."

While the Warriors earned the victory Friday night, Walsh said his team needs to focus on getting off to a quicker start.

"We need to get off to a better start," he said. "We started slow."

The Warriors earned the victory Friday night but Walsh said his team needs to protect the football.

ACH threw three interceptions and lost one fumble Friday night.

"We are glad for a win," Walsh said. "But at some point we have to start making the transition to being great."

Royal 41, Connell 28

CONNELL - The Royal Knights football team clinched a share of the South Central Athletic Conference East Division title Friday night with their 41-28 win over the Connell Eagles.

The Knights took the early lead over the Eagles when senior quarterback Conner Paysse scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns when he found the endzone following a 10-yard run.

Paysse's score gave the Knights a 7-0 lead, a lead they would build on in the second quarter.

With his team holding a 7-0 advantage, Paysse led his team down the field for another Royal touchdown early in the second quarter. The Knights took a 13-7 lead when Paysse completed a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Edwards.

The Eagles would respond and cut the Royal lead to six when Carlis Bailon-Schubert scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.

Royal would take a 13-7 lead into halftime.

Connell's six-point deficit wouldn't last long into the third quarter as Royal kick return specialist Blair Collins fielded the second-half kick off at his own 13-yard line and returned it 87 yards for a touchdown.

Collinss' score gave the Knights a 20-7 lead early in the second half.

The Eagles would again narrow the gap to six points when they scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nathan Martinez to Nate Eppich.

The six-point deficit would be as close as the Eagles would get to Royal as the Knights scored 21 consecutive points in the second half to take an overpowering 41-14 lead over the Eagles.

Connell would score 14 points late in the game to close the gap but the Knights would hold on to remain perfect on the season.

White Swan 51, Soap Lake 7

WHITE SWAN - The Soap Lake football team couldn't overcome a 41-0 halftime lead as the White Swan Cougars fended off the visiting Eagles 51-7 Friday night.

The loss drops the Eagles to 3-5 on the season as Soap Lake travels to Valley Christian Friday night to take on the Panthers.

Kick off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

River View 54, Warden 7

FINLEY - Warden couldn't overcome a 33-0 halftime deficit Friday night as the Cougars football team fell to South Central Washington Athletic conference rival River View Friday night.

The Panthers dominated a young Warden team as the Panthers scored five rushing touchdowns in the 54-7 victory.

With River View holding a 54-7 lead late in the fourth quarter, Warden denied River View the shutout victory when quarterback Arty Reyes threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Brown.

Warden head coach Erik Skone said he was impressed with River View's ability.

"We faced a River View team that is physical," he said. "There is a reason they are third on our league. They came at us right from the beginning and we couldn't stop the run and we didn't do the fundamental things to win the game."

While River View rolled to the victory, Skone was proud of his team's determination.

"We came out in the second half and played hard," he said. "There is no quit in us. We are getting things in line for the future."

Skone is right.

While River View brought 16 seniors to Friday night's contest, the Cougars only have three seniors this season.

"The young kids stepped up and played with heart," he said. "That was huge for us. We had a freshman starting at safety for us and a freshman starting at wide receiver. They did a great job."

The Warden Cougars host the visiting Connell Eagles Friday night in CWAC play.

Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
