Moses Lake talks dog ordinances
Considers changes to ordinance
MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake City Council is hosting a study session to discuss the dangerous-dog ordinance as it pertains to pit bulls and community safety.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers and no action will be taken. It's expected to last until 7 p.m.
The council will discuss suggestions made by a committee consisting of pit bull owners and city personnel. The suggestions include ways to change the dangerous-dog ordinance to help prevent dog attacks and to hold pet owners more accountable for their animals.
The city council began discussing potential ordinance changes after a 6-year-old Moses Lake boy was mauled by a pit bull and left with serious injuries.
At a previous council meeting, several pit bull owners urged the council to avoid banning a specific breed of dog from the city. Instead, the committee was formed to investigate other solutions to prevent serious attacks.
The regularly scheduled council meeting begins at 7 p.m. The issue regarding the potential dangerous-dog ordinance amendment was not on the meeting agenda as of Saturday afternoon.
