Mark E. Massart

| October 22, 2008 9:00 PM

Mark Edward Massart, 54, of Richland, died Thursday Oct.16, 2008, with loved ones by his side. He was born March 8, 1954, in Fort Benning, Ga. Mark was an amazing husband, son, grandson, brother, son-in-law, godfather, and friend. He had a special role as “Uncle Mark” to many nieces, nephews and godchildren. We will miss Mark forever.

Mark’s life was a testament to what tenacity and hard work can accomplish. After high school, he worked in his father’s sheet metal shop and later became a pipefitter (Local 598). He married his sweetheart Patti, and they were able to share their love for 30 years. Mark shifted careers in the mid-1980s and became a chiropractor. He practiced in the Northern-California Bay Area before moving back home to the Tri-Cities. He joined Back-to-Basics Chiropractic where he loved the ability to care for and treat patients. His patients and staff all adored him. He particularly enjoyed meeting and treating athletes from the Fever, Dust Devils, and the Americans. A sports enthusiast, Mark loved his Huskies; but nothing compared to his love for golf, and he had many friends at Meadow Springs Country Club.

Mark died peacefully at Kadlec hospital after a brief but intense battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Patti; Grandma, Marie Bolton; father and mother, George and Marjorie Massart; brothers and sisters, Robert (Becky) Massart, Ted Massart, Joan Massart-Paden, Susan Massart, Mary Ann Throlson; mother-and father-in-law, Verle and Judy Koch; sisters-in-law, Mari Koch-Mayfield, Kelly Hogan, and Carla Weidinger; brothers-in-law, J.C. Hogan and Thomas Hogan; father-in-law, Mike Hogan; special families, Mahantys, Vasquezes, Hays-Petersens and Hogan-Horpedahls along with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

On Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, a Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a memorial Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kennewick. A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Saturday Oct. 25, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland. Please note the dress code does not allow blue jeans. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation, in Mark’s name, to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center, 7350 West Deschutes Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336.
