Wilson Creek tops Kittitas in five games

WILSON CREEK - The Wilson Creek Devils girls volleyball team pulled out a victory over the visiting Kittitas Coyotes to earn the victory Saturday.

Wilson Creek competes in the 1B Washington Scholastic Activities Association (WIAA) division, while Kittitas is in the 2B WIAA classification.

At this point in Wilson Creek's season head coach Mike Ottis wants his team to play perfect volleyball.

"Our goal for this portion of the season is to play consistent ball," he said. "This is the most balanced group of girls I've had in 25 years."

The Devils took an early 1-0 lead following a 25-17 game one victory.

The Coyotes would respond and take a 2-1 lead following a 25-23 victory in game two and a 25-20 victory in game three.

Wilson Creek would even the match and send it to a fifth and final game five following a 27-25 victory in game four.

The Devils earned the victory over Kittitas with a 15-6 game five win.

Despite the difference in classification, Ottis was happy to get the win.

"Bottom line, as a whole, against a 2B school that is bigger than us," he said. "I'll take it."

Ottis said Kittitas' enrollment is five times larger than Wilson Creek's.

Ksenje Fredere led the Devils with 15 kills. Kelsey Campbell had seven kills and Holly Wilson added eight kills.

Jackie Treat led Wilson Creek with 30 assists and Paige Dennis had three aces at the service line.

Wilson Creek sits atop the North Central Washington 1B League and Ottis said his team controls their own destiny.

"Our goal is to win out," he said. "It's very rare that we can control our own destiny. We've got our work cut out for us. (The team's in our league) aren't just going to give it to us."
