Scotties 3, Cougars 0

WARDEN - The Warden Cougar girls soccer team couldn't overcome a three goal deficit Tuesday afternoon as the Cougars fell to league rival Highland.

Despite the loss, Warden head coach Don Edson was impressed with his team's effort.

"Overall as a team the energy was there," he said. "We are showing progress."

Warden lost to the Highland Scotties 6-0 on Sept. 11 and Edson said he was proud of his team's effort Tuesday.

"We played them earlier in the year," he said. "How did we respond? That's how you judge. The difference was we played as a team tonight."

The Cougars close out their season Saturday when they host Mabton at 11 p.m. and Edson said he sees a foundation for the future in his team.

"We graduate three seniors which is a plus," he said. "The tough part is we have 12 players on the team and five of them are what you would consider first-year players."

While Warden has battled the lack of substitutes all season, Edson is grateful for his team's dedication.

"They've worked so hard to put themselves into position to play 80 minutes," he said. "At the end of those 80 minutes they are still competing, the girls are still aggressive. It's been fantastic."
