Moses Lake falls in four games

YAKIMA - The Moses Lake girls volleyball team could not capitalize on a first game victory as the Chiefs fell to league rival West Valley Tuesday night.

The Chiefs got off to a quick start with a 25-22 victory in game one but failed to maintain their momentum as the Rams stopped the Chiefs in four games.

Moses Lake lost the final three games of the match 25-23, 25-11 and 25-16.

Head coach Amy Utter said her team played well at the start of the match.

"We played really well with great energy in game one," she said. "We maintained that in game two."

The Rams proved to be too much for the Chiefs and capitalized on Moses Lake's mistakes on the court.

"We started making mistakes in game three and game four," Utter said. "Our focus is to work on eliminating those errors and come back focused and ready to play Pasco Thursday night."

Iesha Garza had seven kills and 13 digs and Markie Fancher led the Chiefs with 26 assists.

Heidi Smith finished the match with 26 digs and senior Shelby Gonzales had eight kills and 17 digs.

The Chiefs host the Pasco Bulldogs Thursday night at Moses Lake High School.
