Man entered traffic in the dark

MOSES LAKE - A Connell, Wash., man died Tuesday night after he was struck by a truck on West Broadway Avenue in Moses Lake.

Police have not released the identity of the 53-year-old man because his next of kin were not notified, Capt. Dave Ruffin said Wednesday.

At approximately 6 p.m. law enforcement and an ambulance crew responded to the accident near Gibby Road. The man attempted to cross West Broadway Avenue while it was dark. There was no crosswalk near where he was struck.

As he was crossing, he was reportedly struck by a 2006 Ford F-150 truck driven by Susan G. Markine, 54, Ellenwood, Ga.

A man who spoke with the victim before he was struck said he was crossing the street to purchase a beverage while he waited for work on his truck to be completed.

The Moses Lake Fire Department EMS crew worked to stabilize him at the scene in the ambulance for several minutes before transporting him to Samaritan Healthcare where he died a short time later, police reported.

He reportedly sustained massive head injuries, abdominal injuries and a leg injury.

While the ambulance crew worked on him, Moses Lake police and Grant County Sheriff's Office deputies directed traffic. There was a traffic back-up along West Broadway Avenue from Third Avenue to Interstate 90.

The police department asks anyone with information to contact Sgt. Mike Williams at 509-766-9230.
