Victim witnesses theft
MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake man was arrested near Grape Drive in Moses Lake Saturday after allegedly crashing a stolen 2007 Chevrolet Suburban while attempting to elude police.
Jonathan L. Randall, 28, Moses Lake, was arrested for possession of stolen property in the first degree, felony eluding, driving with a suspended license in the second degree, hit-and-run collision with vehicle damage and resisting arrest, according to Moses Lake police statement issued Monday.
He was also arrested for warrants concerning malicious mischief in the second degree, theft in the second degree, vehicle prowl, driving with a suspended license in the second degree, failing to give information to police, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police responded to the incident Saturday night after a man reported Randall was allegedly in a Chevrolet Suburban harassing a woman, according to Moses Lake police records.
"The vehicle had been reported stolen the previous night," police reported. "(The) vehicle was located and fled recklessly at a high rate of speed and struck two vehicles."
During the pursuit it was reported over police radio frequencies a spike-strip was used, causing a tire to be deflated. The suspect was reported to be driving at roughly 50 mph on three tires until becoming high centered on a median on Grape Drive.
Randall allegedly fled from the vehicle until he was subdued using a Taser, according to police radio traffic.
There were no injuries reported, police advised. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Pam Happer is the owner of the stolen SUV and said she saw the suspect steal her vehicle from her Crestview Drive home Friday night.
"We were just going to bed … let the dogs out front … laid down in the bedroom … and we were just turning off the lights and we heard my car door close," she said.
She and her boyfriend Keith Tunstall contacted police immediately as the SUV was being stolen.
"I got it for Christmas with a big bow on it and not even a year later it was stolen, smashed and gone," Happer said.
She said the suspect allegedly prowled a truck they own to obtain the keys to take the SUV. As the suspect was leaving, he reportedly struck a pillar at the end of her driveway.
As the suspect was driving away, Tunstall chased after him yelling for him to stop, she said.
Tunstall got into the other vehicle and drove around looking for the stolen Suburban. He stopped to give Moses Lake police officer the information about the stolen SUV.
"People will walk right up to your house and steal your car," Happer said. "I can't believe it happened to me. It's the craziest thing that has ever happened to me. I'm happy my boyfriend didn't get hurt."
