Senior led Moses Lake to state championship game

MOSES LAKE - After a successful career at Moses Lake High School, current senior and girls basketball star Carly Noyes is headed to Pullman after graduation.

The 6-foot-5-inch Noyes signed a national letter of intent this week to play basketball next season for Washington State University and Cougars head basketball coach June Daugherty.

After going through the recruiting process, Noyes knew Washington State University was the school for her.

"I kind of knew that was the place I wanted to go," she said. "I knew it in my heart I wanted to go to WSU."

Last season Noyes led the Chiefs to the 4A Washington Interscholastic Activities Association girls state championship game and a second-place finish in the state tournament.

The Chiefs made a deep run in the 2008 tournament and Noyes was selected to a First-Team All-State player.

Daugherty is in her second season at Washington State and Noyes said her future coach played a significant part in her decision.

"I like the coaches (at WSU)," she said. "They are positive and enthusiastic. Everyone is really excited about the challenge of turning the program around. I wanted to be a part of it."

Noyes is a three-year starter for Moses Lake High School and is a two-time Columbia Basin Big Nine League Player of the Year.

In her three seasons suiting up for the Chiefs, Noyes is the all-time Moses Lake leader in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.

With Noyes committed to Washington State, she said she is glad for the recruiting experience to be over.

"I'm relieved now that the recruiting thing is over," she said. "It got really stressful at times, (but) it was a great experience."
