Earl Jesser

Earl Jesser, 94, a resident of The Dalles, died at a care facility in The Dalles on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008.

He was born in Java, S.D., on Oct. 3, 1914, the second of three children to Phillip Jesser and Marth (Schepp) Jesser. He grew up in the country in Java, S.D., helping his dad and uncle on the farm. His many jobs consisted of cowboying in Montana, mechanic work in California, Washington and Kansas and owning and operating his own business, G & W Sand and Gravel.

In 1942, he joined the Army where he served in Italy, South Africa, Corsica and Germany. He left the service in 1945 and went to Hardin, Mont., where he met and married Marjorie Maus. Together they raised five children. Succeeding his wife in 1965, he was left to raise his son, Don with the help of family and faith.

He was a member of Assembly of God Church in Moses Lake. In 1980 he sold his sand and gravel business and moved to The Dalles to live closer to his son and daughter, where he became a member of Life In Christ Center.

When at the age of 94; he knew time on Earth was short, he said, “I’ve lived a full life and I’m ready to go home.”

He is survived by his five children, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at Life in Christ Center, with burial to follow at the Veteran’s Section of IOOF 18th Street Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral.
