Tigers 55, Jacks 20

QUINCY - The annual Battle of the Basin football game was held Friday night in Quincy as the Jacks hosted the Ephrata Tigers.

With both teams at the bottom of the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC), the teams played for pride and a battle-scarred trophy that has been exchanged since 1997.

Quincy's home field advantage was not enough to lead the Jacks Friday night as the Tigers defeated Quincy 55-20.

Ephrata relied on it's passing game Friday night to defeat the Jacks as starting running back Cody Mann fractured his ankle in the Tigers' loss to Prosser on Halloween night.

Ephrata senior quarterback Eric Tinnell completed 19 of 27 passes for 297 yards and five touchdowns in the victory. Wide receiver James Prescod caught four Tinnell passes, two for scores, and Ross Buchert caught seven passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Quincy's Breck Webley got the Jacks on the board late in the first quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run following a long drive by the Jacks offense.

Quincy starting quarterback Jackson Hodges completed 12 of 21 passes for 182 yards in the loss.

Jacks wide receiver Trevor Hyer led Quincy with 98 yards receiving on five receptions and a touchdown.

Ephrata head coach Jay Mills said he always anticipates a tough game against his team's cross-county rival.

"We expect the best from them," he said. "No matter what their record is."

The Ephrata victory is the fourth consecutive year that the Tigers have maintained both the trophy and bragging rights over Quincy.

Before the current run by Ephrata, Quincy had won the trophy in seven of the eight preceding games.

Ephrata improved to 2-8 on the year and 2-7 in CWAC play while Quincy fell to 1-9 and 1-8 in CWAC competition.
