MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Chiefs football team fell to 5-5 on the season Friday night as the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups defeated the Chiefs 45-21 at Moses Lake's Lions Field.

The Chiefs never led at home Friday night as Moses Lake dropped to 1-5 at Lions Field this season. The Chiefs were 4-0 on the road this year.

Moses Lake head football coach Greg Kittrell said his team competed Friday night with Gonzaga Prep.

"(Gonzaga) Prep is a good football team," he said. "We hung in there. We did a lot of good things Friday night."

Moses Lake fell behind early when Gonzaga Prep scored 14 points in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead.

The Chiefs would cut the deficit to 14-7 when senior quarterback Josh Loera scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.

With Gonzaga Prep leading 14-7 in the second quarter, the Bullpups would regain their 14-point advantage when John Lumpert scored his second touchdown of the day on a 1-yard touchdown run of his own.

Moses Lake would keep the score close halfway through the second quarter when Loera threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Billy Brice. The score brought Moses Lake within seven points at 21-14.

However, Gonzaga Prep would score 10 unanswered points to close out the half as Gonzaga prep held a commanding 31-14 lead over the Chiefs.

The Chiefs would respond in the third quarter when Loera threw his second touchdown pass of the night to Brice. This score came from 3-yards out and brought Moses Lake to within 10 points at 21-31.

This would be as close as the Chiefs would get to Gonzaga Prep as the Bullpups scored the final two touchdowns of the game on their way to a 45-21 victory over the Chiefs.

Friday night was the last time the seniors would suit up for Moses Lake and Kittrell said he is proud of them.

"They are so hard working," he said. "They are a fabulous group. We felt real good about the season going in. All the things that makes (this season) a good experience was top notch."

While the Chiefs ended their season Friday night, Kittrell said he is excited for next season.

"I am extremely proud of this football team and the future of Moses Lake football," he said. "I can't wait to get started again."
