GRANT COUNTY - Grant County party leaders reflected on their thoughts on the state and national election results Wednesday.

Grant County Democrats Chair Ellie Webb said she is thrilled about Barack Obama's presidential win.

"I'm excited about his presidency," she said. "I think it will be a healing time for us. The last eight years have been loaded with too much hatred between the parties."

Webb said many voters will be surprised about Obama's understanding of rural economies. He has an impressive platform on the revitalization of rural communities, she said.

Webb said he's led a strong campaign and kept his integrity throughout.

"I'm really proud of him as a candidate," she added.

Grant County Republican Party Chair Tom Dent said the presidential race outcome is a disappointment.

"I'm saddened that America has gone the direction of

socialism over capitalism," he said.

Dent said Obama's election to president will equate to higher taxes.

He said he was happy Congressman Doc Hastings was re-elected for an eighth term to represent the 4th Legislative District.

"He's always worked hard for Eastern Washington," Dent said.

Webb said George Fearing would have made a better candidate for congress.

"That was a great disappointment," she said. "George (Fearing) would have helped us. Doc (Hastings) is a weight to this community. I think George (Fearing) should run again."

Dent said it's unfortunate governor candidate Dino Rossi was not elected for the second time in a row.

"We lost the state too," he said.

Webb said she is grateful Gov. Christine Gregoire was re-elected for another term.

"Christine has worked hard for our farmers," she said.

Webb said Gregoire has contributed to the well-being of Washington's jobs and economy in comparison to other states.
