OTHELLO - The Othello Huskies football team defeated the Selah Vikings 42-7 in a Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) match up Friday night.

Both teams entered the game with 6-1 conference records with sole possession of second place in the CWAC on the line with one conference game remaining.

Othello and Selah both lost to CWAC champion Prosser.

Early in Friday night's game it would become apparent that the Huskies would have their night as they ran out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back.

The Selah Vikings defense had dominated nearly every team they played, until they met up with the Huskies.

Othello's defense led the charge against the Vikings as the Huskies returned three interceptions for touchdowns.

Rick Garcia returned one for 59 yards, Jacob Gomez rambled 35 yards on his interception and Aaron Simmons pulled his down and scored on a 30-yard return in the fourth quarter.

The Huskies defense continued to outplay the Vikings offense, forcing two fumbles, scoring on one of them.

Simmons scored his first touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run in the second quarter, while Amos Garza pulled down 56-yard touchdown pass from Marc Garza to seal Selah's fate.

Selah's only score of the game came on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter, after the game was out of hand.

Marc Garza credited his team's defense with the victory.

"(The defense) played so well," he said. "It was a real team effort."
