CWAC soccer recaps

OTHELLO - Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) 2A soccer playoffs kicked off Thursday afternoon with the Othello Lady Huskies taking on the Toppenish Wildcats in a loser-out contest.

The Lady Huskies ended their season with a 2-0 loss to the Wildcats.

Othello had 35 shots on goal, but Toppenish was able to maintain the shutout in the victory, head coach Kevin McDonald said

The Wildcats scored two goals on only five shots.

The Lady Huskies controlled the ball in the first half and continuously attacked the Toppenish goal, only to be denied, McDonald said.

"We were all over the place in front of the goal, but couldn't put it in," McDonald said.

Toppenish came out pumped up in the second half scoring in the first minute. In the 37th minute of the half, the Wildcats scored the goal that ended the Lady Huskies' season.

McDonald was upset after the loss.

"It was very sad in the finishing department, it's unfortunate to lose a game like that," the said. "They got lucky with their shots and got out with a win, and unfortunately were on vacation.

Wapato 1

Ephrata 0

WAPATO - In CWAC soccer playoff action Thursday the Lady Tigers of Ephrata took on Wapato in a loser-out playoff game.

The Lady Tigers and the Wapato Wolves staged a classic battle on the pitch, taking two overtimes and a shoot out to determine the winner as neither team wanted their season to end on a chilly Thursday night.

The Lady Tigers fell to the Wolves of Wapato 1-0 in a shoot-out.

Ephrata's season came down to the final shot of the shoot out when Wapato was able to score, ending the match.

Even in the loss, head coach Hillary Coomes showed pride in the way her team played.

"This is the most close-knit crowd I've ever played with," Coomes said of her team. "I just can't express how proud of them I am."
