Five jailed in Gorge drug raid
Drugs, cash seized in amphitheater area
GEORGE - Five people from Alaska and Oregon were arrested on drug charges after detectives searched their Gorge amphitheater campground site near George during the holiday weekend.
Among the $13,000 worth of drugs seized during the raid, detectives reportedly found about 13.4 pounds of homemade chocolates testing positive for psilocybin mushrooms, said Grant County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Tom Jones Tuesday.
Jones said the candy was shaped like ice cubes and labeled with different flavors, such as butterscotch and heath.
Detectives previously received tips about suspected drug dealing at the campsite the suspects were staying at, Jones said.
The arrests and seizures were connected to a previous marijuana purchase allegedly taking place between undercover detectives and one of the campsite's occupants, Dominick G. Barnes, 20, of Ketchikan, Alaska, Jones said.
Detectives went to the campsite Barnes was reportedly staying at with Joshua K. Devoll, 22, Kellen C. Siciak, 25, both of Port Orford, Ore. and a married couple, Kraig B. Hansen, 27, and Summer M. Hansen, 26, both of Portland, Ore.
A regional drug task force, the Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team, also seized nearly 178 grams of marijuana, 7 grams of hash, 25 grams of hash oil and 1 gram of methamphetamine, the Grant County Sheriff's Office said.
Detectives also took three vehicles and about $9,000 in U.S. currency from the campsite believed to be money generated from drug sales. Digital scales and packing materials were also found.
"It was definitely a large seizure of drugs," Jones said.
The Sasquatch! Music Festival at the Gorge Amphitheater near the campground was held during the weekend.
