Ice take tourney championship

SELAH - In its second tournament outing of the year, the CB Ice went 5-1 at the Selah Black and Blue tournament winning the Blue Division Championship May 17.

Zhana Chandler and Sadee Smigaj provided strength from the pitching circle as Ice came from behind to win their first game against the Cyclones 6-4 behind the 11 strikeout performance of Chandler.

Smigaj came back with a 10-strikeout performance in game two, giving them an 11-6 victory over Fusion.

Game three resulted in a 5-0 loss to the Selah Sparks. Chandler had eight strikeouts.

In game four, Smigaj held the Crushers to one run and led the Ice to a 14-1 victory.

The semi-finals of game five saw the Ice defeat the Rebels 7-3.

Facing the Outrage from Oregon, Smigaj sand Chandler combined for a total of 15 strikeouts in an 8-7 extra inning see-saw affair that went to the international tie-breaker where each team placed its last batter from the previous inning on second base.

Shannel Stelter provided the firepower needed to pull off the win. With Taelor Griffin on second, Stelter hit a sharp single to right centerfield bringing in Griffin for the run.

Stelter led all hitters going 8-17 at the plate with a .471 batting average. Taylor Padilla and Chandler followed with .367 and .367 averages respectively.
