Elaine Violet Bjorklund

Elaine Violet Bjorklund, 81, longtime Moses Lake resident passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the United Methodist Church in Moses Lake, with Pastor Steve Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake. Elaine was born with her twin brother, Wayne, on March 10, 1927, in Naper, Neb., daughter of the late Royal Hawley and Vera May (Thibault) Zink. She was raised and educated in Naper. Following graduation from high school she taught kindergarten through eighth grade for 10 years at the Bega School, a one-room schoolhouse near Stanton, Neb. During that time she met Roy Bjorklund, a veteran of WW II that had returned to the same area following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. They were married on Jan. 9, 1954, in Norfolk, Neb. and shortly after moved to Moses Lake. They settled in a new home in the Lakeview Terrace area where they had lived since.

Elaine loved her family and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, Mariners baseball and was a WSU Cougar fan.

Her husband of 37 years preceded her in death in 1993.

She is survived by three children and spouses; Gary and Betsy Bjorklund, Moses Lake, Julie and Mike Hughes, Wenatchee, Karla and Stacy Grant, Moses Lake; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Lawrence Lechtenburg, Butte, Neb.; one brother and sister-in-law, Basil and Myrle Zink, Hagerman, Idaho; two sisters-in-law, Earla Zink, Kearney, Neb., Louise Zink, Naper, Neb; eight grandchildren, Jamie and Jack McLauchlan, Moses Lake, Brian and Carley Bjorklund, Cashmere, Wash., Kristin Hughes, Seattle, Randy Hughes, Wenatchee, Karrie Grant, Kraig Grant, Kasey Grant and Kelsie Grant, all of Moses Lake; three great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Bjorklund and Adysen Bjorklund, both of Cashmere and Kylie McLauchlan, Moses Lake; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, Roy Zink, Lillie Connot, Lila Liewer, Allen Zink, Gail Zink and Wayne Zink.
