Vision 2020 discusses downtown façades

Group wants to improve downtown appeal

MOSES LAKE - Vision 2020 discussed modernizing downtown storefronts in Moses Lake.

The group talked about creating a plan to make the downtown storefronts have a uniform look.

Community Development Chair David Plate said he has some mock plans showing similar storefronts to downtown shops. They could be used as an example. He said he could also gather price estimates for the facades.

Plate suggested taking pictures of what the storefronts look like right now and placing a graphic design over the picture of what the new storefronts could look like.

Vision 2020 Chair Bill Ecret said he conducted a survey of listeners on his radio show to learn what people wanted to see with regard to downtown facades.

He played sound bites from listeners at the meeting. One person said the current storefronts detract from landscaping and the post office needs to be repainted. Another person agreed the post office needs to be modernized.

Ecret said most of the comments were similar but the biggest concern was who would pay for the upgrades.

Mayor Ron Covey suggested forming a committee to review the project ideas and make recommendations to business owners.
