Quincy buys land from councilmember

Purchased for future expansion

QUINCY - Quincy City Council approved the purchase of two pieces of property from a councilmember to accommodate expansion needs Tuesday.

Council unanimously approved the $165,000 purchase from Quincy Councilmember Jose Saldana.

One piece of property with a house is located at 103 B Street Southwest, City Administrator Tim Snead said. The other property is adjacent and vacant. Each lot is approximately 50 feet by 140 feet.

Someone currently lives in the home and placed the property for sale about one month ago, he said. The city chose to purchase the property because it's located across the street from city hall and is a convenient spot for future growth.

Snead said the council hasn't considered what to build on the lot yet.

During the council meeting, Saldana excused himself from an executive session concerning the purchase of the land.

Council met privately for seven minutes before reconvening the meeting.

Councilmember Paul Worley made the motion to purchase the land and Councilmember Rebecca Young seconded the motion.

Saldana did not vote on the issue and did not stay to hear what the decision was.

Snead said Saldana did not take part in any decision-making or executive sessions in the past concerning the land purchase.

Councilmembers Tony Gonzalez and Manuel Guerrero were absent from the meeting.
