Family accounted for
MOSES LAKE - A house on Travis Drive near Moses Lake erupted into flames Monday afternoon after an apparent stove explosion, briefly sending the adult woman living there to the hospital.
Galina Teleguz, age unavailable, was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. She was discharged from the hospital about 5 p.m., according to a hospital official.
Everyone in the home was accounted for, said Leonard Johnson, battalion chief of Grant County Fire District No. 5.
The family includes between six to seven children, said Teleguz's neighbor and friend, Olga Kleimenova.
Kleimenova said the stove in Teleguz's home exploded and Teleguz may have burned her leg.
Bruce Gribble of the Grant County Fire Marshal's Office confirmed Teleguz was telling officials the stove had apparently exploded.
Johnson said cooking was apparently taking place inside the home before the fire.
The home was fully involved when about 20 firefighters from seven of Grant County Fire District No. 5's stations arrived on scene, Johnson said.
"We've got it under control," Johnson said at about 5 p.m. "We're just in the process of overhauling it."
He estimated it would take firefighters between four to six hours to complete work at the scene.
Neighbors gathered at the nearby Doolittle Dream Park off Patton Boulevard and along Travis Drive to watch the blaze from a safe distance.
