Moses Lake man dies in collision on SR 17
Child remains in serious condition
MESA, Wash. - A Moses Lake man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 17 in Mesa, Wash., and his 3-year-old son was injured.
Tarik Jones, 31, Moses Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported Monday.
Jones was traveling southbound on the highway in a 1998 Chrysler Concord, the state advised.
He reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier on the opposite side of the highway, the state reported.
Brian T. Schrom, 31, Benton City, Wash., was traveling northbound in a 1999 Dodge Ram truck and struck Jones' vehicle.
Schrom was not injured.
The 3-year-old Moses Lake boy was Jones' passenger and transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for unspecified injuries. The boy was reportedly not in the proper child restraint seat. He was allegedly restrained by a shoulder and lap seat belt, the state patrol reported.
The boy was in serious condition in the pediatrics intensive care unit Monday afternoon.
The cause of the crash was reportedly due to excessive speed, the state patrol advised. No citations were given.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
