Ex-Bomber signs with Montana Tech
BUTTE - James York, a 5'11" guard from Richland, has signed a letter of intent to join the Montana Tech basketball program, coach Nate Larson announced.
This past season, York helped lead Big Bend Community College to a 23-6 record and an appearance at the NWAACC basketball championships. York started at the point guard position and averaged 11 points, seven assists, and three rebounds per game while earning First Team All-NWAACC honors for the Vikings.
In 2004, York led the Richland High School Bombers to a Class 4A State Tournament appearance and a 21-7 record while finishing with a top 10 ranking in Washington. He earned Class 4A Honorable-Mention All State honors as a senior. York played one season at Columbia Basin College before taking two years off from school and returning as a student-athlete at Big Bend.
"James is a floor general and excellent all-around talent at the point guard position. He can score, rebound, and defend, but his greatest asset is his passing savvy," Larson said. "James sees the floor very well and finds the open man with a quick and precise pass directly to the recipient's shooting pocket. He was one of the best point guards in the NWAACC with a 2.1 assist to turnover ratio, and we feel he adds depth and experience to our backcourt."
York will pursue a degree in Applied Health Science and caps off the Oredigger's 2008 recruiting class.
