Moses Lake wins shoot-out victory over Pasco
Chiefs 1, Bulldogs 0
The Pasco Bulldogs, the defending state 4A boys soccer champions, were undefeated this year - until the team went up against Moses Lake on Tuesday, Chiefs boys soccer coach Bill Bertram said.
With the score tied at 0 after regulation play, the Chiefs and the Bulldogs went head-to-head in a shoot out to claim the win. In the end, Moses Lake walked off the field with the victory after three players made their penalty kicks.
Alec Robillard, Stephen Nganga and Dominic Anzelini made their shots, prevailing over the single kick made by the Bulldogs, Bertram said.
There were "outstanding defensive efforts" by Isac Bergeson and Richie Ramirez, Bertram said, and shut-out soccer by goal keeper Mitch Harder.
The team showed "outstanding play" and Bertram said he was pleased with the performance.
"It just shows that determination and lots of guts will overcome a lot of talent," he said.
The game marked the final home game for several seniors on the team, including Dominic Anzelini, Richie Ramirez, Alec Robbillard, Miguel Serrano, Alfredo Martinez, Nate Arnold, Tyrel Bruneel and Steffen Klepsch, Bertram said.
The boys play the Richland Bombers in the first district playoff game tonight at 7 p.m. at Bomber Field
in Richland. If victorious, the Chiefs will advance in district play, meeting Pasco again on Saturday.
"We beat (Richland) before, we can beat them again," Bertram said. "We're looking forward to play Pasco Saturday hopefully."
The Chiefs ended their regular season with a 10-6 record, Bertram said.
