Suspect identified, no arrest made

SOAP LAKE - A Moses Lake man is recovering after he was shot in Soap Lake Sunday afternoon.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Soap Lake Police Department with the investigation.

A 27-year-old male was shot during an argument while he was sitting in the passenger seat of a 1990 Honda Accord.

Chief Deputy John Turley said law enforcement knows the identity of the man who shot the victim but was unable to release it as he was not in custody.

The victim reportedly drove himself to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata for treatment. A single bullet from the unidentified firearm struck his right forearm and became lodged in his lower abdomen.

He was later flown to a hospital in Spokane and was reported in stable condition, Turley said. It is unclear if the bullet was removed.

The incident began when the suspect reportedly called a 28-year-old Soap Lake woman who was the driver of the 1990 Honda Accord. The suspect was upset and jealous during the phone conversation, Turley said.

The suspect located the Moses Lake man and the female in Soap Lake and confronted them, which led to the shooting, he said.

Turley said he was unable to release information related to the relationship between the three people.

The 1990 Honda Accord and the suspect vehicle were seized, he said. A search warrant for the two vehicles is pending. An arrest warrant exists for the suspect.

Soap Lake Police Chief Jim Dorris was unavailable for comment.
