Harman wins two events for Chiefs at Cockrum meet

WENATCHEE - Senior Tad Harman won a pair of events for the Moses Lake boys track and field squad on Saturday at Wenatchee High School's Ray Cockrum Invitational.

Harman was first in the shot put, going 51 feet, 6 3/4 inches, and also took first in the discus (138-04). Harman led a strong group of Chiefs in the field events.

Teammates Spencer Fackrell and Cameron Dewitt also recorded top-three times in their respective events. Fackrell placed second in the triple jump (39-0 1/4) and Dewitt was third in the shot (46-07).

The boys' 4x300 relay squad of Andre Moore, Randy Koon, Fackrell and Richardson turned in a third-place time of 2 minutes, 38.14 seconds.

Other top 10 performances on the boys' side included Richardson in the 200-meter dash (sixth in 24.92), Dewitt in the discus (sixth at 116-04), Grant Fish in the javelin (sixth at 155-05), Koon in the long jump (seventh at 18-4 1/4), Jordan Boyce in the discus (eighth at 113-06), Mitchell Hill in the triple jump (ninth at 36-0 3/4) and Timothy Johnson in the 300-meter low hurdles (51.87).

Senior Ann Noyes led Moses Lake's girls with a pair of third-place marks - 17.05 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 33 feet, 11 3/4 inches in the triple jump.

Kayla Chamberlain recorded three top-10 marks by finishing fourth in the 200 (29.02), sixth in the long jump (14-7 3/4) and seventh in the triple jump (31-11 1/2). Freshman Jordan Loera was fifth in the 100 (14.23), and Julie Holck was ninth in the discus (89-08).

Boys: Timothy Johnson, fourth in freshmen/sophomore 110-meter hurdles (19.81). Andre Moore, fifth in freshmen/sophomore 100 meters (12.54). Sunee Ferguson, sixth in freshmen/sophomore 100 meters (12.80) and fourth in freshmen/sophomore 200 meters (26.55). Mitchell Hill, 12th in 100 meters (12.44) and 13th in javelin (134-0). Mike Esparza, 13th in 100 meters (12.46). Jeff Marsh, 22nd in 1,600 meters (5:11.59). Daniel Jenkins, 23rd in 1,600 meters (5:13.99). Bradley Clemetson, 24th in 1,600 meters (5:19.74). Grant Fish, 13th in shot put (39-0). Jordan Boyce, 18th in javelin (122-08). Spencer Fackrell, 13th in long jump (17-5 1/4). Nick McAlavy: 18th in long jump (16-9 1/4).

Girls: Kristin Budiselich, 21st in 1,600 meters (6:23.40). Amy Cromer, 23rd in 1,600 meters (6:41.83). Jordan Loera, 14th in long jump (14-01) and 12th in triple jump (30-3 1/2). Carolyn Matthews, 13th in shot put (26-10 1/2). Danielle Ordway, 16th in shot put (25-5 3/4), 19th in discus (67-08) and 16th in javelin (79-03). Zantyah Young: 19th in shot put (24-0 1/2) and 15th in discus (77-10).

Royal 4, White Swan 1

WHITE SWAN - The Knights defeated the Cougars in a Saturday duel in South Central Athletic Conference action.

Royal's No. 1 single, Candy Peraza, earned a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Tommy Lewis. The Cougars forfeit the second singles match.

At No. 1 doubles, Royal's tandem of Michael Hebdon and Ben Singer went to three sets to defeat Andrew Espindola and Andrew Komaromy (6-3, 4-6, 7-5). White Swan's Oscar Gonzales and Travis Dick took the second doubles match, beating Chase Hebdon and Lucas Warren 7-5, 7-6. The Knights also took the third doubles match by forfeit.

Royal 5, Highland 0

ROYAL CITY - The Knights got three forfeit wins in their SCAC win over the Scots last Thursday, but also got good performances from Candy Peraza, Michael Hebdon and Ben Singer.

Peraza, Royal's No. 1 single, was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Matt Newman. The Scots forfeited the other singles match.

At No. 1 doubles, Royal's Hebdon and Singer dominated Ryan Martin and Seth Chism for a 6-1, 6-0 win. Highland forfeited the final two doubles matches.

Girls Tennis

Royal 4, White Swan 1

WHITE SWAN - Royal's singles dominated the Cougars en route to an SCAC win on Saturday.

At No. 1 singles, Anna Dahlke took out Katherine Bell 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 seed Chanet Stevenson was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Julia Contrazez.

In doubles, the Knights' top-seeded duo of Amber Christensen and Emily Hoelscher ripped off a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing of Tashena Sanchey and Bree Drekker. The No. 2 team of Breahna Weisser and Hollie Clause defeated Gena McLauran and Jackie McLauran 7-5, 6-4.

Royal's only loss came at No. 3 doubles, where Judith Mendez and Amy Martinez dropped a 5-7, 0-6 decision to Diana Sanchez and Lauren Hertzman.

Royal 3, Highland 2

ROYAL CITY - The Lady Knights eked out an SCAC win over the Scots last Thursday thanks to a nail-biting win for the top-seeded doubles duo of Amber Christensen and Emily Hoelscher.

Christensen and Hoelscher held on for a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 victory against Ashley Trapp and Jill Nicholson. Highland took the final two doubles matches, with Gabriella Capalungan and Erika Velasquez defeating Royal's Breahna Weisser and Hollie Clouse at No. 2 (4-6, 1-6) and Tamara Griffin and Daisey Orozco taking out Judith Mendez and Amy Martinez at No. 3 (4-6, 1-6).

The Knights' singles picked up key wins, with top seed Kelcy Jansen blowing through Dannielle Cummings (6-1, 6-0) and No. 2 Anna Dahlke beating Lisa Monroe by the same score.

Walla Walla 4, Moses Lake 3

MOSES LAKE - A promising start for the Chiefs' singles was erased by the Blue Devils' dominant doubles play on Saturday.

Moses Lake's top single, Charleen Johnson, began the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kindall Gehrett. No. 2 seed Megan Frederick followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Presley Peck, and No. 3 player Emily White was a 6-2, 6-4 victor against Dani Weber.

But Walla Walla won the fourth singles match as Shelli Osborn defeated Shari Pearson (6-2, 6-2), and that set the stage for Walla Walla's doubles.

In the No. 1 match, Moses Lake's Nanako Era and Rachel Goodrich fell to Emily Crouter and Anne Schultz (5-7, 1-6). The No. 2 team of Rachel Korth and Rachel Hofstetter dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 1-6 decision to Brittany Bachtold and Norma Arceo. The No. 3 team of Reilly Hourigan and Lilly Leyva lost to Jennifer Lopez and Audrey Smith (2-6, 3-6).
