Lind-Ritzville teams stopped shy of trophies

SPOKANE - Needing a victory in Friday's consolation bracket to salvage a trophy, the Lind-Ritzville boys were sent reeling by the Wahkiakum Mules.

Wahkiakum shot 52 percent in the first half to lead by 23 points and went on to a 63-33 victory over the Broncos at the 2B state tournament at Spokane Arena.

Lind-Ritzville finished its season at 22-8, while the Mules' momentum carried over to Saturday when they handily beat Darrington for fourth place.

Wahkiakum scored the game's first eight points and led 22-5 after one period. Conversely, the Broncos struggled to find the basket, hitting only 23 percent from the field.

Jamie Stevenson had a team-high 13 points for the Broncos and Matt Saetre added nine.

Liberty Bell 36, Lind-Ritzville 27

SPOKANE - The Lady Broncos had a second straight poor outing on offense on Friday, committing 28 turnovers as the Mountain Lions pulled away in the second half for a consolation bracket win.

Lind-Ritzville was eliminated despite a 23-6 record, while North Central League champion Liberty Bell went on to place seventh after losing to King's West on Saturday.

The Broncos got a 3-pointer from Danielle Sackmann to trim Liberty Bell's lead to 26-24 early in the fourth quarter, but got no closer. Laura Cain was Lind-Ritzville's leading scorer with just seven points.

Shelby Scott scored a game-high 15 points for the Mountain Lions.
