OTHELLO - The Old Hotel Art Gallery can now complete its Children's Art Education Center.

The gallery received a $10,000 grant from Inland Northwest Community Foundation, which helped ensure the project's completion, said Director Sally Lambert.

Lambert anticipated the building would be finished within the next week.

She said the hotel is already offering classes through its Children's Summer Arts Program upstairs at the Old Hotel Art Gallery.

"(The center) will be a more comfortable place to have them," Lambert said. "We'll be able to have them more often. We will also be able to have adult classes."

The upstairs space currently used for classes will be used for additional art space and for storage space, she said.

The Children's Art Education Center is heated, so classes can be held any time of year, Lambert said.

"At Inland Northwest Community Foundation, we are honored to award a $10,000 grant to The Old Hotel Art Gallery for the Children's Art Education Center," stated President and CEO Mark Hurtubise. "The ability to offer art and pottery classes to children, especially during the summer months, is an integral part of their learning experience and an amazing way for the community to support them. We are privileged to be part of this program."

More than 50 individuals and organizations in the community contributed to the project with materials and money.

"All of those things have helped us to complete this project," Lambert said.

Upcoming classes are offered in painting birdhouses and making solar-powered robots, she said.
