Moses Lake has successful audit

Two recommendations made

MOSES LAKE - The Washington State Auditor's Office made two recommendations to the City of Moses Lake during their exit conference earlier this month.

"The city did very well through the audit," City Manager Joe Gavinski told the council Tuesday.

The auditor's office recommended strengthening internal controls of cash receipts because utility clerks have the ability to modify receipts. The auditor's office also recommended strengthening control of utility account collections. Two utility accounts were not collected in a timely manner leading to a $5,430 payment default, according to the auditor's office report.

A state auditor visits all cities annually to review city business including financial statements, contracts, budget items, revenue accounts and billing methods.

Utility cash receipt methods and utility account collection methods will be reviewed during the next audit in 2009.
