Summer camps seek participants

MOSES LAKE - Summer sports camps throughout the Columbia Basin are taking signups this week. The following is a list showing what camps are available and how to sign up.

Girls soccer

CB United Soccer Fall 2008 registration has less than a week left. Girls born between Aug. 1, 1996 and July 31, 1997 will compete in the District 6 Fall 2008 IAL U-12 League. Please contact Dale Crawford at 762-3053 by Tuesday.

Baseball

The Moses Lake Pirates are taking signups for baseball camp July 16 through 18 at Larson Playfield. The instructional camps are for boys and girls who want to improve their baseball skills. Athletes will learn proven techniques in an excellent instructional environment. Skills are taught in a "station to station" format by Pirate coaches and players.

The cost to register is $75 before July 1 or $95 after July 1 and includes a special edition Pirates Camp T-Shirt.

Boys basketball

The "Runnin' Vikes" Basketball Camp for boys in grades third through tenth will be held at Big Bend Community College June 23 through 27. The camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday in the DeVries Activity Center, is coached by Big Bend head men's basketball coach Mark Poth and assistant coach John Hohman.

Registration takes place on Monday at 8 a.m. at the DeVries Activity Center. Cost for the camp is $105 for full tuition or $135 for tuition and lunch. Scholarship application forms are available and will be awarded on a needs only basis. For more information contact John Hohman at 765-7495 or Mark Poth at 793-2225.

Girls basketball

Moses Lake High School Coach Matt Strophy will be the instructor for the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department's Girls Basketball camp.

Previous AAU and/or junior high experience is preferred but not required as the camp is designed for the player that is serious about wanting to improve their skills and to begin learning what it takes to be part of the Moses Lake High School girls basketball program.

Cost for the camp, which takes place at the Moses Lake High School Gym June 23 through 26, is $35 for girls in grades four through nine. For additional information contact the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation at 509-766-9240.

Volleyball

Pre-registration is taking place at the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation office for girls volleyball camp June 23 through 26 at Moses Lake High School.

MLHS coach Amy Utter will teach the basics of offense which is passing, setting, hitting and serving and defense, court position, digging and blocking.
