Grant County deputies search Moses Lake home

MOSES LAKE - More than 60 underage teens were cited for allegedly drinking alcohol at a large weekend graduation party near Moses Lake, the Grant County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The homeowners, Shayne Caldwell, 44, and Charlotte Caldwell, 36, were also cited at the Road H.2 Northeast home on suspicion of furnishing alcohol to minors, Grant County Chief Deputy John Turley said.

It's believed the Caldwells are the parents of someone who attended the party, Turley said.

Deputies responded to the home about 11:51 p.m. Saturday because of a report of a loud party involving about 80 teens, he said. Moses Lake police assisted with the call.

When authorities arrived, several teens allegedly ran and one teen was caught after a short foot pursuit.

Moses Lake police helped deputies set up a perimeter around the house, Turley said. About 15 people came out of the home and were interviewed by authorities.

Shayne Caldwell was reportedly inside the home asleep in a recliner when authorities arrived at the home. He was awakened by deputies and told a search warrant was being carried out in his home, Turley said.

Charlotte Caldwell allegedly refused to come outside the home when authorities arrived and wouldn't help bring the teens outside, Turley said.

Several people were allegedly seen peering out the windows of the home while she spoke to authorities, Turley said.

"She said she was unaware there were juveniles drinking at her house," Turley said.

A female juvenile reportedly came out of the home and said there were still plenty of teens inside who refused to come out.

Deputies later obtained a search warrant and entered the two-story home where they found several teens in each room.

Some teens were reportedly seen sleeping on couches, on the floor and on other furniture.

Most of the teens were "passed out" and had to be shaken before they awoke, Turley said.

A locked door inside the home was broken because no one replied to authorities' repeated announcements of a search warrant being carried out, he said.

No one was found behind the locked door and the damaged door was photographed.
