Pearl Christine Anne Monaghan-Barnhardt

Pearl Christine Anne Monaghan-Barnhardt, 93, Moses Lake resident, passed away at Samaritan Hospital on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on July 4, 1914, in Byron, Mich., at the home of her parents, Jesse and Emma Wooden. She had two brothers, Royal and Lawrence and two sisters, Dorothy and Goldie. Her mother, Emma passed away when she was 4 years old and her father re-married Leona Sprague a few years later. In 1933, Pearl graduated from Byron High School, and then she moved to Ann Arbor, Mich. where she graduated as an RN in 1938. She proceeded to work at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich., until she retired in 1979. On Feb. 3, 1939, she married Edward James Monaghan and resided in Ypsilanti, Mich., and then moved to Ann Arbor where they had three children; Patrick Edward, Stephen Michael, and Rosemary Helen. They raised their family and were happily married for 42 years when she became a widow.

Pearl started her next adventure at the age of 69, when she moved to Palmer, Alaska and married William Barnhardt. In 1993, she moved to Moses Lake to be with her daughter and family. She was always ready to give a helping hand and her hobbies included quilting, gardening, Bingo, and reading western novels. Pearl loved to celebrate her birthday on the Fourth of July with family and was always dressed in red, white, and blue. Over the years, she has made lasting friendships and wonderful memories in Michigan, Alaska, and Washington.

Pearl is survived by her brother Lawrence Wooden, son Patrick (Beth) Monaghan, (Judy) Monaghan, daughter Rosemary (Charles) Trowbridge and Susan Monaghan. Grandchildren: Kathy Gipson, Christopher Monaghan, Eddie (Peggy) Monaghan, Liz (Clayton) Pray, Kris (Abel) Cruz, Lynne (Paul) Amato, Suzanne Trowbridge, and Max Trowbridge. Great-grandchildren: Kristy Gipson, Emily Monaghan, Ethan Monaghan and Charlie Pray. She was preceded in death by Emma and Jesse Wooden (parents), Edward Monaghan (husband), William Barnhardt (second husband), Dorothy Davis (sister), Royal Wooden (brother), Goldie Wooden (sister) and Stephen Monaghan (son). Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Mich.
