She was born June 1, 1950, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Owen "Ken" (deceased) and LuDeen Earl. Her family moved to Moses Lake in 1953 where her father started a law practice. Tami had fond memories growing up around her many cousins, acting in school drama productions, and participating in church activities.

She graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1968 where she was voted "Best Personality" by her senior class, and attended Brigham Young University that fall in Provo, Utah. She remained at BYU through the summer of 1969, and then worked as a secretary at the university. In 1970 she received top secret clearance to work for the CIA in Washington, D.C.

She met James Leroy Bates of Detroit Lakes, Minn., at a health spa open house in May of 1971, and they were married for 16 years. They welcomed four children together: Jared, Angela, Kimberlee, and Mitchell, whom she deeply loved and cared for.

Tami was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions within the Relief Society, Primary and Young Women. She also served on various PTA boards and gave countless hours of service to schools, sports teams, and the community. Her passion for travel led her around the world, and she had started a "50 States" tour with her grandson, Carson.

She was a caring and devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her love and thoughtfulness for others will be sorely missed.

She is survived by: her four children, their spouses, and grandchildren, Jared and Lindsay Bates of Pasco, with their children: Carson, Kaiya, and Chloe; daughter Angela Bates of Moses Lake; Kimberlee and Aaron Wise of Moses Lake, with their daughter, Elsie; son Mitchell Bates of New York City, N.Y.; her mother, LuDeen Earl; and siblings of Moses Lake: Douglas and Connie Earl, Thomas and Gail Earl, Jeffrey and Rebecca Earl, Johanna and Eddie Yeazle, David and Peggy Earl, and Patrick and Lori Earl.
