Local Stars shine at nationals

Moses Lake girls start for select team

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Spokane Stars, a 16-18 select basketball team, competed in the Junior National tournament last week in Washington, D.C.

The tournament hosted 156 of the best girls basketball teams in the country and Canada. The Stars finished the tournament 6-1 and tied for 14th place.

The Spokane Stars is a team comprised of players from Washington and Idaho, including Moses Lake High School girls basketball players Jordan Loera and Carly Noyes, Adams said.

The Stars were eliminated from the tournament 63-45 by eventual champion and tournament favorite Blue Williams of Virginia, Spokane Stars coach Ron Adams said.

The Stars won its five pool games and defeated New York New Heights 57-53 before falling to Blue Williams in the second round of the single elimination tournament.

Noyes and Loera both start for the 36-3 Spokane Stars and are competing in the Nike Nationals Invitational Tournament in North Augusta, S.C.

Loera, the Stars' starting point guard is averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 assists per game this season for the Stars. Noyes, the starting center is averaging 12.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, Adams said.

Noyes and Loera will return to the Moses Lake High School girls team that finished second in the 2008 4A Washington state high school basketball tournament.
