Donald A. Zeiler was born June 8, 1930, in Odessa to Jacob and Katherine (Shaub) Zeiler Sr. He grew up in the Odessa area and attended school in Odessa. He joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married Ione Zimbelman on Nov. 21, 1953, in Odessa and this is where they made their home for over 55 years.

Donald worked for the Odessa Grange for many years doing anything that was asked of him but was the parts manager before he retired. After retiring he was busy in the community in which he lived. Don moved into Quail court two years ago when he needed some special care and assistance. He loved the staff and the care he received there. Don passed away July 24, 2008, in Odessa.

Four children, Debbie Zeiler and Lori Carpenter, both of Moses Lake; Sandy Libsack of Odessa, and Tim and Pam Zeiler of Davenport, two special sons-in-law Joe Carpenter of Moses Lake, and Jay Libsack of Odessa, survive him. He has eight grandchildren, Brandi (and Greg) Engel, CJ and Ryan Carpenter, Andrew and Colton Libsack, Donald (Alex), Josh and Sydney Zeiler, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ione “Tootie” Zeiler in 2004, grandson Adam Libsack in 2005, along with nine brothers and four sisters. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, 30-plus-year member of the Odessa Fire Dept., V.F.W./American Legion. Member of the Odessa Riders Club, Odessa Gun Club, and a former Odessa Ambulance member. He enjoyed golfing, trap shooting, bowling, fishing and rodeos. But his biggest joy was his family and watching his grandchildren’s events.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Odessa, with Pastor Tim Hauge, officiating. Memorials may be made to the Odessa Health Care Foundation (Quail Court) or to the Christ Lutheran Church. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, Wash. is caring for the family.
