Yelovich a WCCBL all star
MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Pirates outfielder Dane Yelovich didn't expect to play for the Moses Lake Pirates last year while at Kansas State University. In fact, Yelovich didn't know where Moses Lake was.
"Where is that?" he said after being asked what he thought when he was informed he would play for the Pirates this summer.
After playing his junior year at Kansas State, Yelovich said he had a meeting with Kansas State head coach Brad Hill last fall.
"For summer ball, I am going to send you to Washington," Yelovich said his coach told him. "And I said, 'okay.' "
Yelovich said he loves playing for the Pirates and enjoys Moses Lake.
"It's a lot of fun," he said. "It's a nice place."
Yelovich was one of three Pirates to represent Moses Lake in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League's 2008 all star game at Larson Playfield Tuesday night.
Growing up Yelovich was a Texas A & M fan and never expected to play for a different team in the Big-12 Conference.
"I never thought I would be playing at Kansas State" he said. "My dream was to play division one ball."
Yelovich is a starting outfielder for the Pirates, and leads the WCCBL in stolen bases with 17 this season.
