Jr. rodeo hits Moses Lake
Local club hosts annual event
MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Junior Rodeo Club recently held the tenth annual Junior Rodeo competition at the Grant County Fair Grounds.
Youth participants from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada competed in barrel racing, pole bending, calf riding and goat tying events.
Junior rodeo spokesman Lynette McMillan said the rodeo, which is one of the clubs' primary fund raising events, is a great family entertainment event.
"There were over 250 participants and their families here," she said.
The other primary fund raising event for the Junior Rodeo Club is the New Year's Eve Rockin' Blow Out.
The event is a drugs and alcohol free gathering that offers families an opportunity to see professional rodeo competitors in action.
During the year, the club travels to seven different rodeo competitions and uses the funds raised at these events to help defray the costs of competing.
"Some kids travel more extensively," McMillan said. "It just depends on their skill level."
The Junior Rodeo Club meets throughout the year for banquets and dances, all designed to pump up their mental attitude, she said.
This year's rodeo queens, senior queen Jesse Roman and junior queen Courtney Softich, were on hand to compete in barrel racing, and pole bending.
