MOSES LAKE— Moses Lake and Larson Playfield hosted the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League all star game Tuesday night.

The third annual contest had three Pirates selected to play and represent Moses Lake in a game featuring some of the best collegiate players in the country.

Moses Lake pitcher A.J. Morris, oufielder Dane Yelovich and third baseman Brandon Huerta all had opportunities to play in the WCCBL all star game and represent the Pirates.

Yelovich and Morris play baseball for Kansas State University, and Huerta plays at Pomona-Pitzer College.

Morris started the game on the mound and Yelovich started the contest in left field. Huerta came off the bench for the East all stars.

WCCBL president Ken Wilson said the all star game was exciting for both the players and fans.

"It was really well played," he said.

After runs in the first couple of innings made the score 2-2, Wilson said the pitching came alive.

"The pitching was absolutely phenomenal," he said.

The game ended in a 2-2 tie, with one runs being charged to Morris.

The West all stars scored two runs on five hits and the East scored two runs on six hits.

At the plate, the West scored one run in both the first and second innings. The East team responded in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by Hawkins Gebbers of the Wenatchee AppleSox.

After the second inning the game became a pitchers duel, with both teams utilizing a total of 18 pitchers in the game that starter A.J. Morris thought would be competitive.

"This is going to be a fun game," he said. "There will be no easy outs."

Moses Lake third baseman Huerta made a game saving play for the East team when he tagged out what would be the go-ahead base runner out at third on a throw from the catcher.
