Moses Lake loses home series

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Pirates (7-18) wrapped up a three-game series with the Bend Elks (14-13) Tuesday night.

Moses Lake lost the series with Bend two games to one.

The Pirates the first game of the series Sunday 4-1.

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead with Dane Yelovich, Philip Parrish and Glenn Gray all scoring runs in the first inning. Brandon Huerta scored in the second inning, which would be the Pirates' last run of the game.

The Elks scored one run in the third inning, three in the seventh and the winning run in the eighth.

Moses Lake won the second game of the series 7-6. The Pirates scored seven runs on only five hits and the Elks scored six runs on 10 hits.

The Pirates drew first blood when Ty Rubio and D.C. Legg each scored in the first inning. The Elks countered with two runs in the second.

The Pirates went ahead when Legg scored in the third. Bend tied it with a run in the fourth.

Both teams scored in the fifth inning and the Pirates scored two more runs in the sixth. Bend added two runs in the seventh. The Pirates scored what would be the winning run in the bottom half of the seventh inning when Dane Yelovich stole home.

In the series finale, Moses Lake starting pitcher lasted three innings in the 3-1 loss.

The Pirates scored one run on five hits and committed no errors.

The Elks scored three runs on nine hits and committed two errors.

Moses Lake was held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Devin Walker scored from third base on a wild pitch.

The Pirates host the Bellingham Bells in a three game series beginning Friday at Larson Playfield.

The Moses Lake Pirates will host the 2008 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League all star game July 22 and Larson Playfield.
