ROYAL CITY - Royal City's SummerFest takes place this weekend and the event has something fun for everyone.

SummerFest festivities begin Friday night with a barbecue, a live band and a fireworks show. The fun begins again Saturday morning with a free, old-fashioned cowboy breakfast at the Lions Park Pavilion. Cenex Harvest States is supplying the chow beginning at 6:30 a.m.

After breakfast, participants may compete in the Royal Fun Run for charity. Runners will negotiate over paved and unpaved roads beginning at the Royal City Lions Park. The adult 5K race begins at 7 a.m. and the youth race begins at 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the Royal Fun Run benefit the Histiocytosis Association of America. Registration is between 6 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. in the park. The cost to compete in the run is $20 for adults and $5 for youth entrants. Registration includes a limited edition T-shirt.

After the race concludes, basketball enthusiasts can dribble in some fun and participate in the three-on-three basketball tournament. The tournament begins immediately following the grand parade at 11 a.m.

This year the tournament has limited the number of participating teams to speed up the tournament. The age divisions for the tournament include an under 12 division, an under 16 division, a women's open division and a men's open division.

SummerFest also welcomes car enthusiasts with the DTP racing club car show and Race Wars. The show and shine car show begins in Royal City's Lions Park at 11 a.m. and Race Wars begins at 3 p.m. just outside Royal City on a private air strip.

Royal City's SummerFest, previously known as Community Days, is a unique, family oriented event planned and presented by the residents of Royal City. SummerFest takes place on July 11-12.
