Helen K. Kast
Helen K. Kast, 86, of Moses Lake, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Lakeridge Special Care Center.
Helen was born on Feb. 8, 1922, to Phillip and Albine (Just) Kast in Wishek, N.D.
She grew up in LaMoure, N.D. with five sisters and one brother. Helen was the third child in the family. Helen graduated from LaMoure High School in 1940.
In 1942 Helen caught Clarence Kast's eye in a caf/ in Ellendale, N.D. After dating for a year they were married June 6. 1943 in Oaks, N.D. They had four sons, Curtis, Larry, Keith and Terry. They celebrated their 65th anniversary this year.
Helen and Clarence moved to Othello in October of 1970. She was employed at Chef Reddy Foods for 13 years. Helen retired in 1982.
While living in North Dakota she was a member of a Homemakers Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Othello where she attended church until moving to Moses Lake. She enjoyed gardening, especially working with flowers. Clarence said, "She was a great and marvelous cook." Crocheting was another pastime she liked. Traveling was the highlight of her latter years. She and Clarence would take off for a wonderful winter in Apache Junction, Ariz., Usually staying for five or six months each winter. They did this for 19 wonderful years.
Helen was preceded in death by her sons, Curtis, Larry, Keith, and Terry. Also preceding Helen in death were her parents and four sisters. Her loving husband Clarence survives her along with sisters, Dorothy Just of California and Wilma Loebs of California and one brother, Julius Ketterling, of Arizona, daughters-in-law, Katheryn Kast-Silva, Thelma Kast and Connie Kast, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First Baptist Church, Othello on Friday, July 11 at 11 a.m.
Cremation is under the direction of Stevens Funeral Chapel, Othello.
