Free entertainment and firework show

OTHELLO - Sun Faire 2008 begins Friday morning and ends with a firework show at Lions Park in Othello.

Registration for the Columbia Basin Health Association Sun Run and the three-on-three basketball tournament begins at 7:30 a.m., Othello Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jan Arriola said.

For the Sun Run, medallions are awarded to the first male and female winners to cross the finish line of the three races. The races include a 1 mile walk/run, a 5-kilometer run and a 10-kilometer run.

First place winners of the basketball tournament receive a trophy and second and third place winners receive medals. Registration is $80 per team. All participants get a shirt.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. with the route beginning on Main Street, Arriola said. The parade will include a variety of floats from local businesses, classic cars, military vehicles and law enforcement vehicles. Othello Citizen of the Year Merritt Johnson is the parade grand marshal, she said.

Various entertainment begins at 11 a.m. and food and craft booths open. Children's activities are scheduled throughout the day including a sidewalk chalk art contest.

The city fireworks display at the park begins at dusk, Arriola said.

From noon to 5 p.m. through Sunday, the Abraham Lincoln club car is on display at the Wilbur Ellis parking lot for public viewing.
